Who Won the Presidential Debate Last Night? Obama or McCain

The was held last night between Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain. There have been many who have said that the presidential debate last night was less of a debate and more of a storyline. The reason behind this is that the topic that was mentioned most was the story of Joe the plumber.

Here is some background into this story: Obama was campaigning in Ohio speaking to residents of a neighborhood. Joe the plumber was outside tossing a football with some friends when he saw obama speaking to a group of residents so he went by to listen to him speak. Joe the plumber did not think they were asking tough enough questions and he had always wanted to ask a question to a candidate so he came forth. He asked obama about what he would do on taxes because as a middle class citizen he could not have his taxes raised anymore.

Obama responded with he would only tax those who were above the $250k per year tax bracket and that he would like to “Spread the Wealth” This of course was caught on youtube and the McCain camp jumped all over this story stating that Obama’s comments were socialist in nature. Apparently this is where McCain’s camp could get an edge as the recent polls indicate that McCain is losing to Obama by a decent margin.

This story was commented on more times than the economy and Iraq. It was an interesting storyline to a debate that should have included more about the economy and their ideas about stimulating it as well as what were their real choices that they were going to make about Iraq.

The other debates were pretty easy to tell who won the presidential debate. Last Night’s debate was a lot more difficult to tell.

What do you think?
